Roblox is now the most-played game on PC and console by total hours, despite a mobile-first audience, driven by engagement rather than reach.
The three biggest "games" on PC and console are platforms. Roblox, Fortnite, Minecraft.
Roblox grew 15%. Fortnite fell 26%. Call of Duty fell 51%.
Six of the top ten fell year over year.
Roblox players over-index on arcade, co-op and survival horror. They under-index on realistic, premium AAA.
Different tastes. Same finite attention.
Free entry. Persistent identities. Cosmetic purchases. Fandom franchises. An endless supply of things to do.
Those players may grow up without growing into the premium-release model the industry expects to sell them.
